I don't think I've mentioned Clarence Greenwood yet on my blog (there is no rhyme or reason to my music obsession, 'specially since this is supposedly a medical blog). His new CD, Every Waking Moment got me thinking bout him. 107 Degrees, one of the songs, reminded me that I really like him. Musically. And he is hot, but that's beyond the point. Before people knew who he was, and throughout that whole complaining about his sound, I always liked that raspy voice. And defended it. Greenwood wasn't Cope until the 90s, and signed to Dreamworks in 2000. Now he's with Arista so he can have more artistic freedom, and handle himself properly, and this CD really demonstrates that creative freedom. Cope was a rapper first, thus the high quantities of soul you can find on any of his CD's. You swell up when you listen to Cope, its uncanny, like he's privy to your emotions for that second. And it doesn't matter what he's saying, it comes off so sincere, so crystal. Like his hit song "Sideways", Well, diamonds they fade/And flowers they bloom/And I'm telling you/These feelings won't go away... Not that phony searching for poetry that doesn't fit - that doesn't even pertain. Sometimes someone just nags at you, just causes you to feel, and that's the end of it. That's what I like about Greenwoods lyrics, Citizen Copes sound, it just emotes without pretense. And music needs that these days, with all these people trying to "poet" in ways that are so cliche. Citizen Cope is real. I like real. Musically.
He also resembles Chekhov, who I also think is hot. What? You never liked a literary genius before?
